The Three Little Pigs

Kindergarten in September calls for The Threes! The 3 Bears, Billy Goats Gruff and my favorite, the 3 Little Pigs. This tale is great for retelling strategies and comprehension. This year we spent about 6 days reading different versions of the story, ending with the TRUE Story by Mr. Wolf. Here are some of the activities we did!

Whisper Phone Tutorial

Since before even becoming a teacher, I always eyeballed that cool, seemingly easy, Pinterest project that is the Whisper Phone. Regrettably, Year One did not exactly leave the time or the energy to make them!  A couple of days ago I saw them pop up on my Pinterest feed, and got a wave of motivation. I drove to the closest Home Depot, picked up a few materials and set to work.

Materials:

  • 10' of 3/4" thickness PVC pipe (I just bought the longest pipe available)
  • 2 bags of 3/4" thick PVC elbows
  • PVC cutters (the priciest at $12 but I figured they were an investment)
  • Your favorite duct tape :)
I made these for little kinder hands, so I (okay, my strong fireman boyfriend) cut the pipe into 3" pieces. The elbows add some length so don't be afraid of how small they look! I then put ONE elbow on each pipe. I wrapped the middle of the pipe with the tape before adding the second elbow. This is only because my tape was wider than the phone grip...if that makes sense. My 10 foot pipe made about 30 phones. I hope you find this simple tutorial helpful, go easy on me...its my first! :)

All About This Kinder Teacher

A first blog post/being super unsure of myself...I figured what better way to start off by introducing myself through the Kinder Tribe link up!

I just completed my first year of teaching, and feel SO incredibly lucky that I was hired to teach K. Dream job + dream grade level...who gets that?! In year one?! I know that I may be moved at any point in my career so I plan to make the most of each year I have with my kinders, as they are super special!

With that being said, I LOVE COFFEE! Hence the blog name ;)  A morning without coffee makes for a very, v e r y sad day.

Pretty much the entire series! I love when I read one, and then a few weeks later read another...they cannot believe the similarities.  I love hearing them gasp when they realize that they have the same author and illustrator. #theshocksofKindergarten

Aside from the fact that she's adorable, I love her ideas and freebies!  Check out Kickin' It In Kindergarten if you haven't already!
I mostly just love kindergarten because they are little. But their hearts and minds are oh so big!
I found this adorable reminder at HomeGoods last summer. With all of the new higher expectations in Kindergarten, I often forget to let them be little.

Thanks for reading my first blog post ever! And please be sure to check in on my new blog reveal! Coming soon,
